Marion County soils range from Candler fine sands and Tavares sands in upland areas to Floridana and Manatee soils in wetland depressions. Limestone bedrock is shallower in Marion County than in much of Central Florida — rock can be encountered at 2–4 ft depth in some areas, affecting excavation cost and method. Water table is highly variable.
